The BitBox02 Nova is a hardware wallet produced by Shift Crypto AG in Switzerland. It is available in two editions that share the same hardware but run different firmware.
The Bitcoin-only edition exclusively supports Bitcoin. The Multi edition supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) with ERC20 tokens, EVM-compatible chains, Cardano (ADA), Litecoin (LTC), and 1500+ additional tokens. The Multi edition also includes FIDO U2F support for second-factor authentication. These two editions cannot be converted after purchase.
The display is a 128 x 64 px white OLED with a tempered glass top described as scratch-resistant. Navigation uses capacitive touch sensors with three gestures: tap, slide, and hold. The device measures 54.5 x 25.4 x 9.6 mm including the USB-C plug and weighs 13 grams. Available in Midnight Black, Polar White, and Bitcoin Orange.
The secure chip is the OPTIGA Trust M V3, certified to EAL6+. The microcontroller is an ATSAMD51J20A running at 120 MHz with a true random number generator. The Bluetooth chip is the SmartBond TINY DA14531. Firmware is fully open-source with reproducible builds. An independent external security audit has been performed. An optional BIP-39 passphrase is supported.
Backup uses the included microSD card. The 24-word BIP-39 seed can optionally be displayed on screen for manual paper backup.
The device connects via USB-C. Bluetooth Low Energy is available via Whisper, a custom BLE architecture that runs on a separate chip with no access to wallet secrets and end-to-end encryption. All Bluetooth communication can be disabled. Included accessories: USB-C to USB-A adapter, USB-C to Apple Lightning adapter, USB-C extension cable, rubber pulls, and labeling stickers. Compatible with Windows 10+, macOS 10.15+, iOS 16+, iPadOS 16+, Android 9+, and Linux (x86_64). The companion app is the BitBoxApp. Third-party wallet support includes Electrum, Specter, Sparrow, and MyEtherWallet.
