Cypherock X1 STANDARD Overview

The Cypherock X1 STANDARD is the standard tier of the Cypherock X1 hardware wallet system. It is priced at $179 and contains the same hardware as all X1 variants.

The Cypherock X1 is a hardware wallet system manufactured in India. It consists of two hardware components: the X1 Vault and four X1 Cards. These work together but are also independent of each other in specific recovery scenarios.

The X1 Vault is the main device. It has a 0.96-inch OLED display at 128 x 64 pixels for reviewing transaction details, and a 5-way joystick for navigation. It connects to a computer via USB-C and runs on 5V USB power with no internal battery. The processor is an STM32 ARM Cortex M4 32-bit chip. The Vault’s Secure Element is the ST31H320, certified to CC EAL5+ per the technical specification on cypherock.com. The Vault dimensions are 3 x 6.4 x 1.5 cm.

The four X1 Cards are NFC smartcards. According to the X1 Cards product page on cypherock.com, they use EAL6+ secure elements. Each card is rated for 500,000+ taps and 20+ years of data retention. The X1 Cards communicate with the X1 Vault exclusively through end-to-end encrypted NFC. They do not connect to any other device or software directly.

The private key is never stored whole in any single component. Instead, it is split across all five pieces using Shamir Secret Sharing: the X1 Vault holds one share, and each of the four X1 Cards holds another. Any combination of the X1 Vault plus one X1 Card, or any two X1 Cards alone, is sufficient to reconstruct the seed phrase. This means the wallet remains recoverable if up to three cards are lost, or if the vault is lost as long as two cards remain.

Multiple wallets can be stored simultaneously on the same device. The system is BIP39 compatible and supports 12, 18, or 24-word seed phrase import from other wallets. An existing seed phrase can also be viewed on screen using the Vault and any one X1 Card, without connecting to the CySync desktop app. No passphrase is listed as a supported feature on the official product pages.

Transactions are verified on the OLED display of the X1 Vault before signing. NFT and DeFi interactions are available through WalletConnect. The system supports 18,000+ digital assets across multiple blockchain networks. An independent security audit has been conducted by Keylabs, with findings documented at cypherock.com/keylabs. The firmware and software are fully open source, published on GitHub.

The companion app is CySync, available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The X1 Cards page shows Android and iOS icons in the CySync section, but the technical specification table on the same page states that Android and iOS support is listed as ‘Future’.
