Trezor Safe 3 Overview
The Trezor Safe 3 is a hardware wallet made by Trezor, a brand of SatoshiLabs. It is available in a standard edition and a Bitcoin-only edition. Both share identical hardware; the difference is in the firmware.
The casing is durable PMMA plastic with a hidden tilt effect, anodized aluminum backplates, a tamper-evident design intended to reveal physical manipulation attempts, and intricate laser engraving. The device is explicitly stated to be not waterproof. It measures 59 x 32 x 7.4 mm and weighs 14 grams.
The display is a 0.96-inch monochromatic OLED screen at 128 x 64 pixels. It shows transaction details, confirmation requests, and warnings. Navigation and transaction confirmation use a two-button pad on the device. Physical confirmation is required to approve any action.
The Secure Element is OPTIGA Trust M (V3) from Infineon, certified to CC EAL6+. This chip is NDA-free. The MCU is a 180 MHz ARM Cortex M4 processor. The tamper-evident casing is designed to show visible signs if physical access is attempted.
The device is USB-powered and has no internal battery. It connects via USB-C to computers and Android smartphones. iOS devices are not supported: as stated on the official Trezor website, iPhones are not supported for use with the Trezor Safe 3 and Trezor Suite. A USB-C to USB-C cable is included.
The default backup method is a Single-share Backup: a 20-word recovery phrase based on the SLIP39 standard. Multi-share Backup (Shamir Backup) is also supported. Standard BIP39 phrases of 12, 18, or 24 words are compatible for migration from other wallets. An optional passphrase adds an additional security layer.
The companion app is Trezor Suite, available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. The standard edition supports over 7,000 coins and tokens. Third-party wallet apps confirmed on trezor.io include MetaMask, Rabby, Exodus, and Electrum. NFT, DeFi, and staking are accessible through Trezor Suite and compatible third-party apps.
All Trezor firmware is fully open source and published on GitHub. The device is CE and RoHS certified and is stated to be X-ray safe and suitable for air travel. Operating temperature range: -20°C to +60°C. Available colors: Cosmic Black, Stellar Silver, Solar Gold, and Galactic Rose.
